This year instead of our 4th annual spring break to Huntington Beach, we thought we’d give Newport Beach a try instead. We also decided to stay in a beach house instead of a hotel and see how we liked that. We didn’t leave until Tuesday because I needed to go to class for a test review in Logic, but much to the kids irritation, that morning my professor cancelled class. We were sad, Master D didn’t go with us this time. BYU doesn’t have a spring break. When we landed in Long Beach it was raining but the rest of the week was perfect weather! Personally, I liked staying in the house better as we were right on the beach. B and I would go walk up and down the beach together every morning while they were all sleeping. I could sit out on the balcony and enjoy the view of sailboats, ocean and sand. The kids missed the swimming pool and hot tubs to hang out it when they were tired of the sand and the salt water. They missed having the surfers close by, the volleyball players to watch and the bakery with the delicious croissants for breakfast. I think they also missed someone cleaning up their room every day and they like the busyness and crowds of Huntington. I’m not sure what plan we’ll have next year since Lelu and Master D probably won’t be able to miss school and I have no idea what my schedule will be like either. We also tried the restaurant True Food that Dr. Andrew Weil started and it was DELICIOUS! I got him to sign a couple books when we were at Chopra and asked if he was going to open one in Salt Lake. He said it was on the list – I hope he wasn’t lying to me!
It wouldn’t be spring break without a meal at Ruby’s diner at the end of the pier. It’s totally gross food but the shakes are good.
We brought with us a giant kite. B and the twins figured it out and finally got it to fly.
These are what I would call handicapped vespas – sort of like a souped up version of the electric wheelchairs they have at grocery stores. But they are boardwalk legal – even though we got a lot of people yelling at us that they weren’t. B was thoroughly embarrassed but they rest of us had fun.
We also were extremely lucky that we were there the same week as Michelle T’s 50th birthday while she was in town for some training. My kids have been blessed with a few extremely awesome aunts that are interested in and involved in their lives and she is definitely one of them. B and I are constantly inspired and impressed by Michelle and how she lives her life always serving others, forgiving others, kindly treating others, understanding others, looking for travel and adventure (a woman after my own heart) and the example of her relationship with Maruan (who we also love having around). We wish they would move back to UT but we’ll take whatever time we can get. We planned a nice dinner with J & C and the boys, who were also down there for spring break. It was an incredible night (B even danced a little) and would have been perfect if Maruan could have been there too.
Blessed nieces and nephews!
How could I not post this one?
This one is my favorite! All three of them do not look like they are in their 50’s, do they?

What a great way to keep a journal! I love reading everything you write Is that Ruby’s Diner at Oceanside Pier? We enjoy the salads, shakes, etc. there. It’s just a walk down the Pier from where we go to Wyndham Ocean Side Pier. Maybe a chain?
