For Christmas I gave B a weekend at the Deepak Chopra (If you don’t know who he is, you should google him) center in San Diego. It was a seminar for integrative health – which means implementing the four cornerstones of your health: 1. SLEEP (nothing can heal or repair without enough of it) 2. Nutrition 3. Exercise and 4. Meditation/Stress release. Dr. Andrew Weil was there and it was really awesome with a bunch of physicians and health care workers with some various hippies and adulterers thrown in. Back on the home front, we had Courtney in charge. We were not allowed to have any electronics (for obvious reasons) during any of the sessions. On Friday, Deepak Chopra met with us for a really cool discussion about the health benefits that science is proving about meditation and then led us in a group meditation – meanwhile TT being released from his Doctor ordered NO bikes, scooters, snowboarding, ice skating or any various such activities for two weeks that could undo his previous surgery, decided it would be a good idea to pogo stick down some concrete stairs. B and I came out of our very stress relieving session only to turn on our phones with messages lighting up our phones telling us that he was in the hospital with a very severe break to both bones in his right forearm (telling the doctors on duty that his parents were at a hippie camp). Thank heavens for good friends and neighbors! Courtney was picking Ari up from dance and Lelu was heading off on a date so Chase’s dad took him to the hospital with his arm hanging like there was a joint in the middle of his forearm. On Monday, he had surgery to put in two plates that will have to be taken out again next fall with a ban from FUN FOR ANOTHER EIGHT WEEKS – a fate worse than death to him. He had a very bad reaction to the anesthesia, threw up for two days and was out of school for a week. His scars are absolutely hideous and make me cringe (giving me a good reason to put to use that meditation I learned about) but as only a 13 year boy could think “It makes a great story and I can tell people I got bit by a shark.”
One of those bones was broken in six pieces and apparently it was hanging down like there was a joint in the middle of his forearm.
the nurse taking the xray included the paper clip “pogo” for us..

“Hippie camp”! I laughed out loud!! You are so funny! I’m glad he is okay!
Dare I admit that I studiously read his book as a young mother? He does make some good points, but keeping a sense of humor is necessary! Life does that for us!
