A Blurb About Palo Alto

Jan 6-Feb 9th, 2018

So B spent an entire month in No CA for a plasma study they are conducting at Stanford.  I went out there three times and he came home twice – one of which I didn’t know about and he tried to sneak in the house at 10 pm. He tried to throw me off by calling me at the same time he opened the basement door but I heard the “beep-beep” that our alarm makes when a door or window is opened, knowing TT was asleep and Ari was in the shower. I went investigating and found him laying on Master D’s bed – giving me quite the heart-start!  He’s lucky that I didn’t grab my handgun or have a heart condition.

Knowing he needed to be there a month we rented a little 2 bedroom apt add-on to a much larger home right near downtown. It was very convenient as he could walk pretty much everywhere he needed.  He was only two miles from Stanford so he rode his bike to his appointments.  I can see the appeal of the area but the mind-twisting expense is really crazy.  A few of the days we would go walk/jog through the neighborhoods – as it is very pleasantly flat, and really just very pleasant overall.  I stopped and took two photos on different days.

First this one: What is it about fluffy white clouds in a blue sky that floods me with agape? (that’s a favorite CS Lewis word that I serendipitously remembered just now). And this one: I really liked this house on the street we were staying on.  They’d knocked down two homes and combined two lots to build this house.  I took it super quick so I wouldn’t appear creepy. B had the privilege to go to lunch with Kari and Hadley while he was there.  Hadley really cracked him up with her very spunky personality.  My kind of girl! Here was his home for the month.  It was only the bottom floor front part of the house.  The walls were also very thin and they had a teenage daughter – so there were some very interesting/sometime uncomfortable audible events that went on.  Mindful of that, I had to talk in much lower tones than I am used to, B already does that naturally.  On a Saturday when I was visiting, B’s long time friend Chuck came over, he lives about an hour away and brought an extra bike for me and we drove into San Francisco to ride along fisherman’s wharf and over the Golden Gate bridge.  The bike he brought me was an e-bike but somehow in the first mile the electric controller fell off the bike and was lost forever.  I was super confused and felt terrible about it because I hadn’t used it or even touched it.  So since the bike was supposed to be helped by electricity up the hills, it weighed a ton!  I am very proud to say not only did I have no problem with the ride – I loved every minute of it.  The sun was setting and I stopped and took a few photos and then just watched it Master D gave me this puzzle for Christmas.  Wasn’t it nice of him to put the photos of the kids looking cool and me and B looking like total dorks?  Every time I was out there I worked on the puzzle.  Aub helped work on it too and then the last couple days he was there we finally finished it.  It was a hard puzzle!!  All that foliage. On a side note, pieces of your body parts cut up into puzzle pieces are pretty funny and I didn’t necessarily recognize them.  I am sure I could come up with a great metaphor about the true self with that one…..I’m going to think on it.  Here we are nearly a month out from finishing the study.  The medical community (and some people who charge a hefty amount for this stuff) already know that young plasma works as an anti-aging treatment, what they were testing was tolerability of multiple infusions a week.  During the month he was very tired, he felt like he received the emotions of the donor each time he felt a little different (like maybe one was anxious about taking a test and another one was pretty chill) and he honestly didn’t feel great during the study. Right now, however, he feels great, is sleeping much better, has a much clearer mind and overall energy is incredibly improved.  At first, I wasn’t sure whether it was worth it, but now I’m completely convinced.

  1. Thank you for sharing what is happening! It is wonderful that you can see “agape” moments y in a tough time overall. YOU are remarkable! So is Barton. So glad you are having some special times together through it all.

  2. I’m so happy that he is able to get this treatment. Prayers, Fasting, and love to you and your family the next few months!
