Another Birthday Success….mostly.

The law of attraction says that if what you want are positive things in your life, you must speak of all things positively.  This is mostly my blog.  So in an attempt to keep with that theme I’ll explain the “totally agreed upon and ease of the twins 14th birthday party planning”.  First off, these two are completely similar and not maturing at different paces, they never ever fight, are never ever mean to each other, don’t have battles practically every single morning and are mostly a pleasure to not have to referee and completely agreed on what kind of a birthday party they wanted to have.  TT was not the least bit insistent that no one brings any presents, we don’t send out invitations, not bring a cake or sing happy birthday.  He didn’t care at all about whether some friends found out they had a party and didn’t get invited since what Ari wanted to do was too expensive for as many friends as he has.  And Ari was not the least bit insistent that all of those things were included in her party.  They didn’t fight over it every time we brought it up either for at least two weeks. The result was a calm compromise.  We went go kart racing (Ari’s choice), sending out texts to a few friends, no presents, no cake and no singing(TT’s choice) and having a family party that included cake, singing and presents the next day.   IMG_3235 IMG_3232 IMG_3218It was a race worthy of nascar, complete with spin outs, crashes and aches, pains and bruises the next day. Lelu came down and helped me a ton through out the day and she and her friend Jake were warned not to win and mostly kept the agreement. Who knew that raising boy/girl twins would have so many unique challenges?  It’s been argued that being sarcastic is a bad parenting tool, but if it’s used in the right way – which is the beauty of the written word that you can’t necessarily tell that it’s sarcasm – it’s a great coping mechanism for parents of teenagers!

Christina made Ari her absolutely addictive and delicious chocolate chip cookies in the shape of a cake and TT got the ‘presentation epic fail’ but always delicious picnic cake. IMG_3255

  1. Took me a minute to believe you, but then I caught on! I’m not getting old. Can’t believe those twins are that old. Both still adorable!
