Whiskey & THE CONCERT:) Day 4

August 24, 2022

Master D has been researching all kinds of investment opportunities and one he’d heard of was to invest in a cask of Scottish Whiskey produced in the highlands.(you buy a portion of a cask and it ages for 12-20 years and then you sell it for 10-15% more) Now none of us drink at all and have no clue what a good whiskey would even taste like or even what it’s made of. Lelu was totally against even checking it out. But I thought, what the heck? It’s part of Scottish history and the Parks n Rec where Ron Swanson goes over there is classic. So we did a 45 minute tour of the Glengoyne Distillery. It was pretty stinky smelling strongly of yeast fermenting but the drive out there was beautiful, it had a waterfall and it was pretty interesting. I always think – who had so much time on their hands and liked alcohol enough to figure this process out?? Master D did not invest.

We met up with Michelle & Maruan back in Glasgow in the city center for lunch at a Mexican restaurant of all places. I had brought all of this left over foreign cash from past trips to use while we were there. Master D tried to use a pound to pay for something and we found out that the cash had expired? How can cash expire? Well apparently over there it does – so Master D found a bank that would give exchange it for unexpired cash.

I had scheduled a car to pick us up to take us to the concert and to pick us up when it was over so we didn’t have to mess with Uber, cabs, parking or traffic.

When we got there, they sent us up these stairs to the VIP section and I started following this other group going up another set of stairs. Master D yells up to me I am going the wrong way and then says quietly to me “And that group of people you are following is Hannah Reid and her band London Grammar”. HIS ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAND! And I was about 6 steps below them – I SO WISH I was quicker on the draw and said “Hey Hannah – we are big fans, can we get a photo?” We both just froze! Duh! He had noticed them immediately but I think his job is killing all his ability to be starstruck. Poop! But it was a memorable sighting and proximity none-the-less.

For the show, we forked out the big bucks and bought VIP tickets, which in past concerts have been totally worth it because you get very good seats. But this venue was completely different from what I am used to. It was massive!! We got a swag bag and dinner plus never ending drinks included but I’m pretty sure the farthest seats from the stage I’ve EVER been at any Coldplay concert. It was very hard to tell from the seating chart just how far away we really would be. The floor General Admission was HUGE! You could not get a seat close anywhere in that stadium. I couldn’t see the sweat dripping off his face or even really see his face but the concert was still so much fun! I love the light up wrist bands, the fireworks, the confetti and the overall joy of music I feel at these concerts.

Do you see all of the cups behind me? That was my middle-aged cohort sitting next to me’s beers. And she drank them all but one that spilled all over the floor and my feet.

Maruan and Michelle are excellent concert going companions! They danced the night away with no worry of being embarrassed. Master D said to me when we were leaving that he thinks I am only 100% myself at Coldplay concerts and I totally agree!
