January 2021
We were in the process of selling Taz the last six months of the year. So much of it was stressful and awful to be honest. The kids were sick of hearing about it. I was sick of all the crap they threw at us. It started off with a good offer, what we thought was a good cooperative company and then the onion was peeled layer by layer to reveal fume after fume after fume. In the end, it made it so challenging to appreciate that we are RETIRED! We honestly had a very hard time accepting congratulations. I have a fear of coming off as ungrateful but the many emotions were running the show. I am to be sure – very grateful to not be working full time.
I used this analogy to try to explain what happened. B is an MMA fan and particularly likes Conor McGregor. Well in 2017, Conor McGregor decided to fight Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather was the heavy weight boxing champion and McGregor was the UFC light weight champion. I felt like this was a very good way to explain what happened…., B was the McGregor going into a fight with a Floyd Mayweather Boxing champion in a boxing match in a boxing ring with boxing rules. Not realizing quite how different the rules really are. McGregor/B thought it was going to be even – I mean he/they is/are amazing athlete/entrepreneur. The problem with the fight was the rules of engagement. MMA fighters/Entrepreneurs are scrappy. They have to learn how to kick, wrestle, grapple, strike and engage in man-man combat to successfully win. Boxing is a controlled and strategically placed punching to the face and body. (In this analogy I’ll refer to the Co that bought us out as the Buyers). Mayweather/Buyers have trained completely different from MMA. They play by boxing rules. They curl their fist and throw punches at their opponents face and body until they are knocked unconscious or give up. Also McGregor/B knew he/they were getting a big payoff for the fight (win or lose) – but what neither expected were the other costs associated with not being able to engage using their scrappy skills. They were penalized for using holding kicking grappling. Therefore, He/they honestly didn’t have a chance playing by boxing rules. McGregor/B took a hard beating to the face and body. And neither one of them understood the rules of engagement quite like Mayweather/Buyers. In the end, B could retire but man he took a beating and couldn’t get out of the ring without conceding. We closed on December 31st – at least we forced them into agreeing to that. (we just knew that the blue wave was going to tax the bejeezus out of us in 2021, I’d say that was our one big win in the deal) So on New Year’s eve the last words B spoke to them when asked if he’d like to say something (after a lot of butt kissing and gladhanding by the the attorneys) was “You don’t want to know what I have to say” and then when they asked if he agreed with everything he said “thank you sir, may I have another”. In case you don’t know that reference it comes from the movie Animal House. I almost threw up.

But yes, we are no longer the owners of Taz. B is happy to be retired though. And we’ve been very busy setting up our new lifestyle. More to come.
B’s Birthday 01/15/2021
I skipped writing about his birthday somehow. We went to a very expensive, very delicious restaurant in AZ called Monarch Cafe.
