June 12th
I really enjoyed my birthday this year, even though we were shut down. I was able to spend the day with my family and friends. I went over to Kelly’s house and ate lunch outside picked up by Cherie and with Christina, Sara, Kelly and Amy. Cherie and her kids also made me a Naked & Afraid bag complete with machete, fire starter and the famed necklace and map. Now that’s the kind of gag gift I like. So clever! I had not seen any of my friends since our trip to AZ, so we caught up for a few hours. Later on, we ate at home to-go Cheesecake Factory and then we went to go see Casino Royale in a rented movie theater. The kids made me another cute and funny video with clips from their babyhood that was played on the big screen before the movie. I’ll put below. I also was spoiled with a lot of flowers.

Veronica made this for me and brought it over to Kelly’s house for my birthday lunch. So thoughtful!!

I asked the kids for some observations about me.
Here’s what Lelu observes about me:
- Works her @$$ off at TazWorks.
- Is MORE than ready for retirement
- Is MORE than ready to be a grandma
- Falls asleep each night to “Dateline”
- Secretly wants to compete on “Naked & Afraid”
- Homemade chocolate chip cookies are her love language
- She’s incredibly thoughtful at gift-giving
- She loves Gigi and the Sorenson boys as if they were her own
- Meditates EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
- She’s a mama bear to her core.
- Excels at school and loves to learn.
- Takes a million photos of flowers.. she loves them!
- She’s still a book worm…or a kindle worm?!
- Daniel Craig is her celebrity crush, well, besides Chris Martin.
- Coldplay’s number one fan, obviously.
- LOVES going on walks/hikes, and will even bring Cinco along with her.
- Salted popcorn is her current snack of choice.
- She loves her sparkling water machine she got for Christmas
- Extremely loyal to her family and friends.
- Big Train Spiced Chai (hot) is still an all-time favorite of hers. I think that’s the only thing she really craves when she’s off sugar.
- Has perfect feet…for real.
- People STILL ask her when she gets her hair extensions. Spoiler alert: it’s all REAL
- Her fingernails are always perfectly manicured
- She is spending a lot of time trying to improve her sleep. Dang twins;)
- Misses traveling.
Here’s what Master D observes about me:
36. I’m somewhat superstitious and I knock wood a lot when I’m talking about good things and/or bad things happening.
37. I started hating Facebook in 2013, got off of it in 2014 and never once wanted to get back on and this year I feel the same way about Instagram. I believe social media is subversively evil especially when it seems like most this BS in our world right now is fueled from all of these platforms. (not the pandemic – I believe it’s a real thing)
38. I love doing puzzles but get super annoyed when they are too hard.
39. I am super proud of writing this blog for as long as I have and at the same time am super annoyed with myself for getting so far behind all the time but never ever think of quitting.
40. I long to go on a trip where I just walk in the footsteps of my favorite philosophers and read their works while I’m there and not drag someone along who doesn’t appreciate it.
41. I don’t fall asleep to Dateline every night because I’ve seen all of the Datelines – but for about 6 months I did fall asleep to Forensic Files every night. I don’t know what it is about true crime shows- but I really do love watching them. Btw I would convict a person much much easier on a jury than B would, but I’d be right.
42. I don’t like swimming or getting all the way into water because honestly my hair takes freakin forever to dry. But I love having a pool and being near lakes and the ocean while wearing sunscreen every single day.
43. I wish I could wear flip flops all year long.
44. I dream every night and pretty vividly and really like to try to figure out what my dreams are telling me.
45. I don’t like repeat watching movies or tv shows except for Seinfeld – I can and do watch it over and over. I used to be the number 1 player on Trivia Crack for Seinfeld in the US but kept getting beat by the number 1 player in the world – so I deleted the game.
46. I look forward to an empty nest (since we’ve never had one) especially if it is filled with boring habits.
47. Ideally I’d like to spend one fourth of my time in AZ, one fourth in UT and one fourth in Montana (It’s a very recent love affair) – and one fourth on adventures.
48. Every so often I spend a day or two listening to all the music I loved as a teenager.
49. I get giddy when flowers bloom in my yard or I see something really beautiful – thus why I take a lot of flower photos.
50. I have reading glasses shoved everywhere and buy a new pair almost every time I travel.
51. I get very sad when I finish a good book.
52. I can never think of what sounds good to eat.
From the blog of where I saw myself in 5 years in 2015:
I see myself graduated from the U with a bachelors in Philosophy and a masters in Bio-Ethics, deciding where to work or whether to move since the twins will be graduated from high school. If I have grandchildren, which I hope I do by then, I will be spending as much time as possible playing with and spoiling them. I will be much better at living in the present. B will be working less, either having sold his company or being semi-retired and we can travel when ever and where ever we want to go.
Where I see myself in 5 years:
I see myself spending my time going back and forth visiting the kids where ever they all end up and spending time in AZ, UT and MT. If I don’t have grandkids by then – I will have looked into being a surrogate grandparent or volunteering at the children’s hospital holding babies. Maybe I’ll get an online masters in BioEthics. I’ll still be writing this blog and sleeping great! B and I will both be retired from working a real job.
