I am so far behind!!! I had a lot of reading and writing this last semester – due to another Harvard professor who thinks reading 100 pages a day is no big deal – so sitting down at the computer even one more minute than I had to just didn’t appeal to me. Sadly the kids did not get a printed blog for Christmas this year. To try to catch up more easily I decided to take it a person at a time and since Lelu’s birthday was the next major event after our trip I will start with her:
08/28/14 Since she had already started her senior year – her friends hung some posters around the school.
I taught her how to drive the MG in honor of my having bought it when I was 17. She did great considering she’d never tried a stick shift before. I think she only stalled out once.
Birthday Interview:
1.What do you like to dream about?
I like to dream about my future. My husband, kids, job, etc.
2.what is your best memory this year?
Standing underneath the sparkling eiffel tower in the pouring rain at midnight in Paris.
3. Who is your hero? Why?
My hero is my mom. She is the very best lady and I can’t imagine my life without her.
4.How would you describe your family?
My family is the chillest, raddest, coolest, funnest family out there. I love them.
5.If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I was more direct and confident with what I want for myself.
6.What are you most proud of yourself for?
I’m proud that I have worked really hard to save all my money I earn! I’m also proud I’ve ran 2 half marathons and plan to run a marathon before I’m 18.
7.Who is the kindest person you know?
Courtney Gengler, she is the most genuine, thoughtful person I know.
8.who is your best friend? What do you like most about your best friend?
My best friend is Maddie Dismuke, she is the best listener- and even when she can’t give me advice, she just listens and is always there for me.
9.What is the one thing you would like to learn to do well?
Play piano, cook, skateboard (Honestly I’ve always had this weird desire to be this cool skater girl)
10.If you were an animal, what one would you be and why?
A flamingo because it’s pink and reminds me of Hawaii 🙂 haha.
11. When is the last time someone hurt your feelings? How did you react? (this one is optional)
12.What is the scariest thing that happened this year?
This creeper stalked me at a McDonalds in England… that was sketchy.
13. If you could keep only one thing, out of everything you have, what would it be?
My closet… I know that’s shallow.
14. Who do you think is really successful, why?
My dad. He is the hardest worker I know, I am amazed everyday by him.
15. What three words best describe yourself?
Genuine, happy, empathetic
16.What’s something that makes you angry?
Fake people
17. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
This boy told me I was the most real, genuine, beautiful girl he’s ever known.
09/12/14 Lelu was nominated for Homecoming queen at Corner Canyon High School this fall. She took first runner up! While she was being crowned, Ari and I were in CA being tortured by – I mean entertained by One Direction, which was Lelu’s Christmas gift last year too. What should have been a really cool thing for her being in the top three was a bit traumatic deciding to miss the concert. After some stressing out – we made it work. But I missed the actual crowning. I could have never predicted last December when buying the tickets we’d have this conflict – How does that happen?? Grateful Kari could come support her too!
Lelu and her escort Tyson at the Homecoming game.
09/13/14 The Homecoming dance was the following night – which I missed too – thank heavens it all worked out since I am blessed with good friends to call on = Christina for dress stress; Ann for beautiful make-up and Betsy for amazing hair. She and her date Tanner have known each other since birth – sort of. His mom and I played on a bunko team together and would bring them in car seats and they’d hang out – both being really good babies.
09/16/14 I am so very grateful for willing sisters and B’s flight miles so that I could make good on Lelu’s One Direction experience. And apparently Phoenix was a much better experience than CA anyway! Thanks Michele & Dave for accommodating her!
She LOVED the concert!

10/25/14 Dance number Two – Halloween – where she and her date Parker (who was the homecoming king) after taking the ACT that day – were dressed as a pinata and a fiesta attendee.

11/15/14 – ANOTHER dance. This one was called the Black and White Ball. She and her date Coleman (An incredibly polite, smart, motivated guy headed to Stanford) had an amazingly fun night.
The latest things to catch up on with Lelu is she has decided to go to Utah State next fall. She’s got a great group of friends that will be going up there too and two great roommates. Her senior year has also been so far the year of dating – I’m just going to put a couple especially fun dates on here. Thanks to instagram – I get copies of these…
It’s been a great fall for Lelu and we are looking forward to a few more dances, graduation and college!

She grew up way too fast! Looks like her mom, beautiful!
There is so much that is admirably and beautiful about this Lelu and her mother, there wouldn’t be room here for a hundredth part of all that in this small space. Love you all.
Grandpa Sorenson
Whoops! The typo in my previous comment should have said “admirable” and not “admirably.” Can’t be leaving mistakes like that around all these college people–like my wife, Kristin’s mother and Ayden’s Grandmother, the retired teacher.
