Last Year of the Teens

Sunday birthdays pretty much just suck and having a birthday the same week that school starts is a challenge.  We used to have a big neighborhood bbq for her birthday – maybe we’ll do that next year?  We did go to dinner on Saturday night and Lelu and I attempted to make the Italian meal she learned how to cook in Italy on her actual birthday.  It wasn’t quite the same, but it was pretty tasty anyway.  I made a cake and Cherie once again came through with the sugar cookies – I’m pretty sure that was the highlight of the day!

The Birthday Interview

1.Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

Blake Lively! I know that’s the weirdest choice but I love her.

2. Would you like to be famous? In what way?

Yes, but not I have to take a body guard with me everywhere I go famous. Famous for doing good in the world.

3. Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?

Yes, phone calls always make me so nervous!

4. What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?

Waking up in Ravello, Italy accompanied by the people I love most. Beautiful weather + beach + mountains + jeeping + yummy yummy Italian food. Ahhh a girl can dream right?

5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?

The Coldplay concert!! Aka best night everrrrrr.

6. If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?

Definitely the body of a 30-year-old. I feel like my 90-year-old mind would be much, much wiser than my 30-year-old mind.

7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?

I used to always say that if the apocalypse happens in my lifetime, I hope I’m with the few that are “twinkled” up to heaven. I wouldn’t mind that!

8. Name three things you would want your future spouse appear to have in common.

Ambitions, values, and love of adventure/fun.

9. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

My family for sure! They make me happy.

10. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?

I wouldn’t.

11. Take four minutes and tell your life story in as much detail as possible.

Mom, Dad, Aubri, Dhane, California and lots and lots of sunflowers welcomed me into the world August 28th, 19 years ago. Four years later we welcomed boy/girl twins- making me the middle child. We grew up in Draper in two houses which I still love, went to countless different schools, fought, laughed, played, missed Dhane for 2 years, and we all started growing up. I graduated Corner Canyon High school, went to Utah state with 2 of my best friends, took a 6 week trip of a lifetime, and am now at UVU not sure of what will come next. I guess we’ll see where I’m at next birthday interview? 😉

12. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

Courage. So much courage.

13. If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, would you want it to?

It would be way too tempting. I’m glad that a crystal ball isn’t a real option for me, haha.

14. Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?

Skydiving. I haven’t done it because I will most likely pee my pants when I do.

15. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?

I am proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and chasing after my dreams. I couldn’t do it without my parents. THANK YOU.

16. What do you value most in a friendship?

Effort

17. What is your most treasured memory?

That’s THE hardest question. I have soo many! But the first thing that comes to mind is from last summer while I was in Machu Picchu. I remember laying down on the grass all by myself and admiring all of the beauty around me and wondering how I was possibly in Peru. I felt so lucky. I was perfectly happy and content with my life at that moment.

18. If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living?

Yes, I would just travel with the people I love most. I wouldn’t worry about the future. I’d just live!! (Secret Life of Walter Mitty status)

19. What does friendship mean to you?

Quality, not quantity. I am blessed with some of the most amazing friends that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. I am lucky, lucky.

20. What roles do love and affection play in your life?

I love a lot of people, and I know I am loved.

  1. Oh, Lelu we love you!! You are strong, courageous, and beautiful inside and out! I loved the little whoop cream eating chocolate faced little girl you used to be and I love the lovely young lady you are now! Yes, I realize I sound like I am 80.

  2. This is such a neat tradition you have with the “interview”. I am grateful to get an inside view of these grandkids. (I miss a lot with my hearing loss – such is life at 80.) I agree 100% with Michele’s comment. She’s a special one!!!

  3. What a pleasure to have such a lovely, sharing-generous-with-her-happy feelings granddaughter. Your beauty comes through in many ways, and you are a tribute to the fine family you are a part of. Happy birthday, a little late, but no less sincere in our love for you. Grandpa Sorenson
