I will always look back fondly on summer 2019’s trip to Flaming Gorge. Not for the good food, good company, beautiful vistas, fun swimming, cool scuba diving, or the fun communal camping site, but for two very specific things.
Some background: My good friend Evan wanted to go scuba diving at Flaming Gorge (this friend being the one I went scuba diving in Iceland with). So we planned a trip, and TT alongside several other employees of Tazworks signed up to come along–and so did my dad!
We planned to play some glorious (yes mom, I used the word glorious here) Dungeons and Dragons. And I smugly made a bet with my mom that I would be able to get my Dad to play some good ol’ DnD with us. She could not fathom a world where B (who notoriously hates witches, wizards, magic, and dragons) would ever stoop so low as to play such a heinous game. Well, long-story short, we got my dad to play DnD around a campfire with us. We even took a video of it, and wouldn’t you know it, my mom still wouldn’t believe it happened. I am fairly certain my dad had fun, even if he thought the game was a little slow. In the eyes of our mother, TT and I corrupted our father.

But now for the most important and historical event to have taken place on this trip to Flaming Gorge, praise be. Some way and some how, between TT and I talking about it and the stunning lake that is Flaming Gorge, our father left having decided he wanted to buy a ski boat. This is something that TT and I have longed for our entire lives. Yearned for it. And this trip did it. I will forever remember this seemingly innocuous long weekend of scuba diving for the resulting pleasure I will receive wake-surfing behind a ski boat whenever I visit home during the summer.
