Jan 15th, 2020
In 2015, I asked everyone where they saw themselves in five years. Some of their answers were pretty funny so I thought It’d be fun to ask it again. I’ll post the 2015 answer and then I’ll post the 2020 prediction for everyone’s birthdays this year
2015 The items Bold came to pass
“I’m Settled: The business has grown to a point where I have good people working for me so that I only work a couple days a week so that I can enjoy my wife and family. The twins will be planning their high school graduations and college/mission plans as K and I plan our travels. We will be debating whether to keep our Draper home or just go back and forth between our cabin (which is built finally) for the summer and winter home in AZ or CA. I’ll be a grandfather (courtesy of Master D or Aub? because they’ll be married by then) – which will be an awesome thing to be and I will be totally involved in my grandkids lives and will spoil them rotten – Maybe Lelu is just getting married as she graduates from college. I’m financially secure enough that I could retire if I wanted to. YOPD has been arrested and I am physically doing as well as I am today. I have plenty of time to mountain bike, hike, camp, ski, snowmobile, snowshoe and boat.“
2020 Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“Be completely retired and a bad influence on my kids by encouraging them to skip work and spend time with me. Kristin and I are going back and forth between our cabin in Park City and our snowbird home in AZ.”
I only have a few photos from his birthday this year. I remember that I cooked his favorite dinner on Sunday (some sort of steak and potatoes) with a picnic cake and then made Mimi’s cobbler on his actual birthday.

His office staff is quite clever when it comes to B’s birthday. This year they filled his office with balloons and then gave him a dart gun to pop them. I’m pretty sure every single person sitting within hearing shot got VERY sick of listening to him pop them. It took about a week.

This year I’ve decided to write an Observations About birthday post.
FIFTY-SEVEN OBSERVATIONS about B
- He can never get the kids names right in the moment. Ie… Tallon-I mean Dhane, Dhane-I mean Tallon, Lelu-I mean Aubri-I mean Arielle -Michelle-I mean Aubri
- If he can’t think of the word in the moment, he just says – “habenero” and that happens A LOT and for some reason he thinks that suffices for what he was trying to say.
- If he’s focused on anything at all – he literally can’t hear anyone talking to him.
- He falls asleep early.
- He sleeps through most noise
- He can go back to sleep in seconds,
- and for the first time in his life he sleeps in past 7 am
- If you can’t find him, he’s either in his van planning his get-out (you know in case of an earthquake or apocalypse) or wandering the yard looking at his plants
- He spends a lot of time looking at videos of surfing behind boats
- He’s a first generation speed boat owner this year
- He watches a lot of videos about the boat
- He makes TT read all of the rules of boating too
- He loves movies about Zombies or Aliens.
- He really digs having a beard
- He still talks to most dogs we pass by
- He talks to every person we pass by on the trail.
- He loses his phone a lot
- He loses his keys a lot
- He loses his wallet a lot
- He loses his glasses a lot
- And somehow he eventually finds them
- He brags that he’s just lucky when it comes to finding his stuff
- He brags about his kids often and easily
- When he’s done talking on the phone, whether or not the other person is done talking, he just says “okay bye” and hangs up
- He laughs very hard when he thinks somethings funny
- He tears up in chick flicks easier than I do, but never in Zombie, Alien or Apocalypse movies.
- He loves making huevos rancheros
- He likes going to yoga
- He makes fun of me being “woo woo”
- His yoga that he likes is the most woo woo yoga I’ve ever been to
- He nicknames a lot of people (sometimes nice and sometimes not so nice)
- His employees aren’t sure if they want a nickname from him
- He’s very patient with my lack of being able to ski well
- He loves this hideous giant blue duffle bag that he bought when he went to Africa in 2004
- Even though I’ve bought him several more convenient pieces of luggage with wheels – he lugs that hideous giant blue duffle bag through airports resting it on his head
- He forgives easily
- and forgets even easier
- He is really good at puzzles
- He puts in pieces by matching the colors
- He gets really obsessed with puzzles and stays up way too late
- He gets mad at me for putting puzzles out and bans them for awhile
- He’s more comfortable laying on the floor with his head weirdly resting against the wall than the couch
- He likes girl singers only
- But doesn’t generally listen to music or anything in his car.
- He’s had to relearn how to mountain bike and ski without crashing
- He comes home bleeding from crashing like it’s no big deal
- He can’t wait to start eating before we say a prayer-it’s like compulsive-if it’s there..he will eat
- He loves ice cream- esp shakes
- He can only walk really fast or really slow
- His employees are very loyal to him
- He works less hours right than at any time in his life that I’ve known him
- He told all of us if we didn’t order him a drink with his to-go meal – don’t bother ordering him anything.
- His preferred drink is unsweetened iced tea
- He really dislikes all sit-coms but tolerates Seinfeld for my sake
- He thinks Brian Regan is very funny.
- He painstakingly picked out all of his plants for the secret garden
- He loves to admire them and point them out to all of us to admire.
