Oh NOOO Summer is Over

August showed it’s ugly face much too quickly and then disappeared even quicker.  The twins started 8th grade on August 19th, Master D finally had his much anticipated jaw surgery on August 24th, I started school again on the 25th, Lelu turned 18 on the 28th and we moved her up to Logan on the 30th.  Master D had already moved out and down to his apartment at BYU and was just home for the week to recover and then he and Lelu started classes on August 31st.  Writing this makes me realize exactly why I felt slightly tired and overwhelmed and decided to drop my 3rd class and just stick with 2 classes again this semester.

IMG_2843TT has had a growth spurt this summer and is now just over 5’7″. He joined the Lacrosse team and we are all learning about this new sport. Ari made it onto a higher dance team and I spend a lot of time shuttling them around. It’s really really weird to just have the two of them at home now.  NOW I am extremely grateful I had twins last.  One of them would be very lonely for the next five years if they didn’t come as a pair.

This is how Master D liked to think about getting his jaw broken – Poor t-rex didn’t make it but D came through it just great.  He even had a cute nurse  – that just happens to be his neighbor he hadn’t met yet.

IMG_2867I have other photos of him in the hospital and stuff but I choose not to post them on here because I DO NOT like photos of people in pain.  He’s obviously not very happy and he has the same reaction to pain killers that I do but he is 22 and bounced back pretty quickly.  He even interviewed for a job the following Monday having told them ahead of time that he’d had this surgery and they hired him on the spot as a teacher’s aide for one of his film professors.  I think they were impressed that his desire to get the job out weighed his pride in looking beat up. Now to get those darned braces off!

IMG_2855This is slightly out of order because it’s after her birthday – but that has it’s own blog post coming up – here’s my little Lelu moved into her dorm room up at USU.  I honestly wish I selfishly would have held her back (her birthday being 3 days before the cutoff) to keep her home another year.  She just seems far too young to be leaving home, I’m just not ready yet.  She loves the social aspects and the independence but she is having a little struggle getting used to the huge classes and riding her bike across campus at 7:30 in the morning when it’s already 30 degrees up there.  B and I are extremely grateful both of our college kids are having the real college experience and doing well.  As for my college experience…

This semester I am taking a class on the philosophy of the science of addiction that is really interesting and taught by an attractive young philosophy PhD fellow (take my word for it – that’s RARE) which helps me tolerate my other class: Inductive Logic –  basically statistics mixed with Logic and I am getting my butt beat down in this arena! I need this last general to graduate – after this everything else I need to take is my strength.  This is truly my greatest intellectual weakness – I eat humble pie at least once a week, have had a consistent headache for a month now and may have been a sobbing mess once or twice.

I did however find a Coldplay song last week that I had never heard before (I was a shocked as you all!) and Chris Martin once again came through for me – I think of it as my personal version of divine intervention –  bringing a little bit of hope into being able to pull it through and pass the class.

It’s called Help is Round the Corner:

Stuck here in the middle of nowhere
With a headache and a heavy heart
Well, nothing was going quite right here
And I’m tired, I can’t play no part

Oh, come on, come on
Oh, what a state I’m in
Oh, come on, come on
Why won’t it just sink in?

Help is just around the corner for us

Oh, my head just won’t stop achin’
And I’m sad here lickin’ my wounds
And I’m shattered but it really doesn’t matter
‘Cause my rescue is gonna be here soon

Oh, come on, come on
Oh, what a state I’m in
Oh, come on, come on
Why won’t it just sink in?

Help is just around the corner for us
That help is just around the corner for us
Oh that, help is just around the corner for us

  1. I am so impressed with all of your schooling, and how you run your family! You are awesome! I love you”!

  2. I am flat out impressed with your pursuit in such a tough field. You have enlightened me on several things. I am always interested in philosophy, but any classes in that area left my head spinning, too. I like the safe reading at home, but being challenged does clarify your thinking after much pain. You go, girl!!!
